His Love Endures Forever – Eyes to See – Day 19

I let her stay up late.  Ezra missed his nap today, so he was off to bed early.  Eva took care of Isaac while I lay down with Ezra, staying with him until he was asleep.  I let him lay on my chest, and I marveled at the small weight of his body against mine and that (Lord willing) he will grow and grow and grow into a man and someday be bigger than I am.  But today, for now, he is my little boy.

Isaac was off to sleep soon after, curled up in his fleecy, blue sleep sac, soother in mouth.  Eva waited for me while I put him to sleep, and before long, it was just she and I, curled on the couch in the lamplight.  We read a chapter of Little House in the Big Woods, the chapter where Laura and Mary get to go to town for the very first time in their entire lives.  I pondered what a simple life they led, and how marvelous everything in town seemed to them.  I longed for a more simple life myself, life on an acreage, without internet, without distractions from what was right in front of me.

Eva pressed her body into mine and listened (I always wonder how much of it she is really taking in).  I love these moments, snuggled together, no noise except the sound of my voice, reading aloud, our imaginations running with the text.

When we were finished, she asked, “Should we do a bible study, mommy?”

And though it was bedtime, and she’d already been up late, what could I say to my sweet little one who was initiating a devotional time?  So we read from her book, we read about being grateful and she said she was thankful for the birds and for her whole family.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

Psalm 36:1-9

We talked about how God loves us — always — no matter what we do, whether we do something good or do something bad, he loves us forever and ever, His love never stops.

“Just like how mommy loves you no matter what, Eva.” I said.  “There’s nothing that you could ever do that would ever make me love you any less.”

And I thought about how God’s love endures forever, it bears all things, it withstands all things, all the things I drag it through, all my little sins, all my big ones too, God’s love puts up with all that and keeps on loving even when it seems crazy.  How I am the little weight against God’s chest, and the little girl curled up against Him.  And nothing I could ever do will change that love he has for me.

I am so thankful.  His love endures forever.
