I promise I have some real posts coming soon, I’m a little behind and haven’t had much time for thinking! Until then, here is another review :)
I was absolutely thrilled to receive a copy of Jennie Allen’s DVD-based Study, “Stuck“. I had heard of it a couple of times before and was really interested in it, so it was awesome to be offered a copy to review! The first thing that struck me about this study is its visual appeal. Beautiful imagery, nice fonts, and the study book isn’t just the usual paper you would find in a workbook, it’s more like a magazine with smooth, full colour pages and images. Included with the workbook is a DVD with 8 videos, a leader’s guide, and cards to get the conversation going during your study.
As I watched the DVDs, which are filmed in various locations in the style of Rob Bell’s Nooma videos. The first thing I noticed about Jennie is that she speaks right from the heart, as if she’s right there in the room, talking to and sharing with me as a friend would. Her study discusses “the places we get stuck (brokenness, anger, discontent, fear, feeling overwhelmed, sadness) and the God who sets us free” and is designed to be done over 8 weeks.
I reviewed this study on my own, and I was so impressed with the material in the videos and the study guide (which takes you deeper through journaling, drawing, praying, etc.) that I would love to do this study with a small group of women. I also feel very equipped to do so, thanks to the thorough leader’s guide. I found my heart was very moved during each session, each “stuck” place was so real and relevant to my life as I would assume it is for many women. I loved this study and look forward to doing it again, as well as reading Jennie’s new book, “Anything” and new study “Chase“.
