Friends Like Iron.

Who is in your circle?

Think about who surrounds you.  Think about your friends.  Who do you spend most of your time with? Do they encourage you?  Are they like-minded?  Do they build you up, or do they tear you down?

Maybe you have a circle of friends who are just like you, who parent the same way you do, and who live life in a similar fashion.  Friends like these are amazing, and truly a gift.  But maybe you don’t know many other mamas, or maybe you are a new Christian, or maybe you have some really awesome friends, but you still feel alone in how you think about and live life.

Friends that Sharpen

Proverbs 27:17 says “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend”.

In other words, our friends should help to improve, strengthen and build our character.  As we strive towards being mothers on purpose we need a group of people who will support us.  We need others to confide in, we need others to share our struggles and our triumphs, we need others to laugh with.  We need others who get it.

I have mamas in my life like that.  Some live near to me, some live far, some I have never met.  A beautiful thing about the internet is the community it creates.  One thing that encouraged me to press on toward my motherhood dream was when I discovered a couple of motherhood blogs where the authors were of like-mind to myself (does that sentence even make sense, Rachel!?).  It was like a breath of fresh air!  Perhaps you read this blog for the same reason (which would truly be an honour to me!).  I encourage you to get connected to other mamas that will inspire you to keep on the path toward being the mama you want to be.

Here are some blogs that encourage and inspire me:

Okay, there are lots more blogger mamas that inspire me but I don’t want to overwhelm you with an extensive list!  I encourage you to take a look at these blogs, subscribe if they inspire you, check out their links and seek out other blogs that may speak right to your heart.  The point is, you will be joining in a powerful community of mothers who are striving to do their best, which will help you and I to do our best too.

two can defend themselves.

Thank you for this post, I linked in on my page a few days ago. I have been struggling with a few friendships that don’t ‘fit’ anymore and one is due to not being sharpened in anyway. It has been a process that is not over yet, but I just wanted to thank you for the encouragement to consider the positive when building a relationship. Is is honoring or not. Have blessed day, I know you may not see this soon, since you’re taking a break but you have inspired me in the last few months, it is why you are on my sidebar :). Blessing!

Humbled. Thank you! Encouraged to know that you have been pointed to Christ! I, too, have been inspired to walk with Christ and parent with grace from the women on this list.
